The NOAA NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF) Independent Technical Review (ITR) Team has been honored with the prestigious Outstanding Team of the Quarter award for the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2024. This recognition, signed by Heather Kilcoyne, Director, and Kathryn Shontz, Deputy Director, of the Office of Common Services for NOAA/NESDIS, acknowledges the team’s exemplary efforts and leadership in supporting the NCCF ITR.
Key contributors to this achievement included Dan Beall, Vice President of Operations at GAMA-1 Technologies, alongside fellow awardees Kumar Machado, Krishnan Narasimhan, Martin McHugh, David Ku, and Carlos Escaffi. Their collaboration provided critical guidance on artifacts and documentation, which was instrumental in the foundational review of the NCCF. Furthermore, their efforts helped teams formalize processes in alignment with the Department of Commerce’s (DOC) Agile Project Management standards.
The NCCF is a cornerstone of NOAA’s cloud infrastructure, enabling NESDIS to process, store, and distribute vast amounts of data from satellites and other sources. Designed for scalability and fault tolerance, the framework ensures the continuity and security of operations across multiple availability zones. With features such as shared common tools and application services, infrastructure as code (IaC), and FedRAMP services, the NCCF provides the resilience and flexibility needed to manage mission-critical data for organizations like the National Weather Service, the Department of Defense, the Air Force, and other research institutes.
